Happenings Magazine had an interesting chat with Sheun Natural, where he shared his zest for music, life and how it’s been so far since coming into the music industry.
Tell us about yourself?
I was born Ojeyinka Oluwaseun Samuel, stage name, Sheun Natural. I was born in the city of Ibadan in the early 9os. I’m the first child of a family of five. A christian. My inspiration comes from God and the environment.
I attended Adedeji International Nursery and Primary School and proceeded to Loyola College Ibadan. I studied Politics and International Relations at Lead City University, Ibadan.
Why Politics and International Relations?
I was in Arts class in secondary school. I wanted to study law but I then felt it would be too rigid, so I decided to study Politics and International Relations.
And during this time did you have music in you, did you always think about music?
Yes, right from my younger years, I’ve been doing things that have to do with music. I used to be a drummer boy in my local church; I was in the choir…
You all always start from church…
Music started professionally when I was in Explicit dance group. I was doing more of music than dancing so along the line I said to myself, “focus on music and excel”. I officially started music this year (2016).
Do you have any music out so far?
I have a couple of songs out out there on media websites, and they are getting massive air play.
There’s no album yet?
No album yet.
How many songs do you have out.
I have about 4 or 5 out.
What genre of music do you do?
Afro pop and RnB
So far, how has the response been to your music?
Glory be to God, it’s been good, awesome! awesome! No negative reviews.
Have you been performing at shows and events?
When I was with Explicit dance group, I shared the stage with a couple of notable artistes. I’ve been to a lot of shows.
Singing! But I had to start professionally on my own as Sheun Natural, and I’ve been to shows. To the glory of God, if they are to mention five artistes in Ibadan, Sheun Natural will be one of them.
Are you under any record label?
I have a management team, KOBI MIGHTY RECORDS, sponsoring me.
Do you intend to record more songs before the year runs out?
By the grace of God. I’m always working. I have more than enough but you have to be strategic when releasing them. I have one that was recently released under my new team, titled Leave Story and it’s been getting massive air play.
Your songs can be gotten how?
They are online, just google Sheun Natural – NotJustOk, NaijaLoaded…
Where do you see yourself in the near future?
I see myself as the king of new school; my songs will be played all over the world. This is how I see myself because I’m really optimistic about my career and myself. I believe in myself and what I’m doing. I believe I’m on the right part, and if I don’t stop, if I keep pushing, my name will be written on the wall of fame.
With the fame, hype, limelight, some people would want to go into the industry…
Most of them don’t stand the test of time, but those that have the talent will stand the test of time. Time will tell.
Who are the artistes who have inspired you?
A lot of them, Tuface Idibia, Sound Sultan, Wande Coal, Wizkid, Tiwa Savage, Yemi Alade, Seyi Shay, Angelique Kidjo, Bob Marley, Fela Anikulapo Kuti; I listen to their music and they inspire me.
What more should we know?
I’m an actor, I dance and I’m a model. I have featured in two movies, Shackles of Love and Dija, look out for these movies.
In a relationship?
I’m in a relationship with my music right now. I’m focused on building my career.
Movies, gisting, talking politics and current affairs. I’m also really inquisitive; like learning.
If you had the opportunity to collaborate with artistes, who would you love to work with?
Timi Dakolo, Tuface, Wizkid, Omawunmi, Yemi Alade, Tiwa Savage, Kiss Daniel, Vector, Banky W, and even Chris Brown.
Keep believing. Keep working and praying. Be focused and don’t mind what people say all the time.
