As the count begins to exiting the White House, President Barack Obama will today, January 10, 2017 deliver his farewell address as President of the United States to wrap up his 8 years in office in his hometown of Chicago.
His wife, Michelle Obama who had on Friday delivered an emotional farewell speech at the White House will join her husband at Chicago’s McCormick Place, a few miles from where he delivered his victory speech in November 2008 for this time-honoured tradition.
According to CNN, Mr Obama has described Tuesday’s speech as “a chance to say thank-you for this amazing journey” and and to “offer some thoughts on where we all go from here”.
Obama’s farewell speech will be taking place at 9pm EST on Tuesday – which will be 2am on Wednesday morning in the UK.
Mr. Obama’s speech will come just one day before President-elect Donald Trump is expected to answer questions and explain the future of his business empire at his first news conference since being elected in November.
The White House says the farewell address will be streamed live online.
