General Overseer of the Redeemed Christian Church of God (RCCG), Pastor Enoch Adejare Adeboye today Saturday January 7 allegedly announced his retirement as administrative head of the church.
Pa. Adeboye whose exemplary leadership and guidance is noteworthy having led the church since 1981, would be greatly missed by members of the RCCG globally.
The former lecturer who reportedly stepped down from his role as the ministry’s overseer has appointed senior pastor, J O Obayemi his successor with immediate effect. The appointment took place during a thanksgiving service for church ministers on Saturday morning at Shimawa, in Ogun State.
The rumoured newly appointed GO was the former Special Assistant to the General Overseer (SATGO) on Finance. Obayemi was promoted to the position of Assistant General Overseer in August 2016.
According to information going viral, although Obayemi has been appointed, Adeboye will continue to head the global ministry while Obayemi will head church affairs in Nigeria.
“It is true that Obayemi has been named. But Pastor Adeboye has not retired. He will still be in charge of the Holy Ghost service and other major church services, but Pastor Obayemi will lead the RCCG in Nigeria”, a source is quoted to have said.
It should be noted that Adeboye was ordained and appointed by the founder of the church, Late Josiah Akindayomi. Adeboye joined the RCCG in 1973
