Diamond and Sterling Bank branches on Burma Road, Apapa Wharf have been set ablaze by protesting tanker drivers. The drivers set the buildings on fire in retaliation of the death of one of their colleagues who had been shot dead by men of the police force stationed at the bank. The first of the three men whose identities are yet undisclosed was shot in a scuffle that ensued between the bank security and a tanker driver when an officer went trigger happy before running into the bank. The colleagues of the dead driver went on rampage, lit the bank while demanding that the officer be released to them. Other officers in a bid to defend themselves and quell the situation started shooting sporadically, killing two other drivers and wounding others.
