Former House of Representatives member, Hon. Abiodun Akinlade joined the bandwagon of politicians who dumped the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) for the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC). What is interesting to note is the motive behind his decamping to the APC.
Sources close to Akinlade who represented Yewa South/Ipokia Federal Constituency in the lower Chamber of the National Assembly between 2003 and 2015 left the PDP in order to realize his Ogun State governorship ambition. Akinlade is said to have met with Ogun State Governor, Ibikunle Amosun and other APC leaders in Ogun State before his official declaration for the APC. The former lawmaker from Ogun West Senatorial zone is banking on the public declaration of the Governor that Ogun West Senatorial District will produce his successor in 2019 to bring his ambition to reality. With this latest move, Hon. Akinlade, sources say, has started girding his loins, holding series of meetings with his political associates, and supporters towards realization of his intention to be the next Governor of Ogun State in 2019.
It however, remains unclear if Governor Amosun has endorsed anyone who will take over from him in 2019, but all aspirants are said to be frantically scheming to emerge the anointed candidate of Governor Amosun.
