It’s a long weekend and you certainly deserve to take a break from the hustle and bustle of Lagos and stay indoors all weekend. If you are not traveling, you’re probably thinking of finally getting around to the chores you’ve been postponing forever or you want to get as much rest as you can. Perhaps, you’re also thinking of catching up on some episodes of the TV show you missed during the week. Besides that, though, you haven’t quite got anything concrete planned. You’re, in fact, apprehensive about staying the entire weekend indoors without getting bored out of your wits. Ah, I know that feeling, trust me! So, here, I’ve got just the right fun things you can do this weekend and any other.
1. Read –Yes, read. I know what you’re thinking, but trust me, reading is fun, too. It’s especially fun when you’ve got the pages of a great book to go through. It could be anything, a motivational book or a novel – romantic, thriller, adventure – as long as it is interesting, putting it down would be the last thing on your mind.
2. Bake –
Do you love baking, or are you learning how to? Why don’t you bake instead of sitting idle? Hone and improve on your baking skills by baking that cake you always wanted to and just the way you want. By the end of the weekend you’d have a lot to eat.
Cooking is fun and certainly doesn’t feel like hard work if you love it. So, what are you waiting for? Get to it! Perhaps now’s the time to try out that new recipe you learnt from your favourite cooking TV show. You can also make split making all the soup you need the entire week between Saturday and Sunday.
This should be fun if you’re a movie junkie. Dust some of your old favourite movies off the shelves and do a marathon. You can take a break for popcorn, drinks, snacks and phone calls. You should also check out some nice movies showing on DSTV this weekend. That way you can switch from one movie channel to another. I can never get bored with the DSTV remote in my hands. I mean, never. You should also check out new, interesting movies on Youtube if you’ve got enough data to spare.
Host a get-together or a slumber party
Slumber parties aren’t just for teenagers. Host your friends to a slumber party on Saturday night and have as much fun as you deserve. They’d probably come along with their night wears, food and drinks and a lot of gist. Same goes for hosting a get-together. It doesn’t have to be anything major. Just have some snacks and drinks ready and be prepared to do a lot of catching up on old times with your friends. C’mon, what could be more fun than that?
Take a long soak in the tub
You know how you’ve thought of visiting the spa recently but just never saved up enough for it? Well, now’s the time to treat yourself to something quite similar. Soak yourself in a hot bath with some music, candle lights, sweet scents all evening after a day of chores and you’ll be glad you did.
Start a journal or a blog
You do not have to be a professional writer to do this. Your journal is private, so all you really need is a notepad or your laptop. And you can you write whatever you want, anyway you want. Trust me, writing is just as nerve soothing as talking. If you have a lot to talk about and you want to share it with an audience, then you should start a blog. It’s easy and it’s a lot of fun!
Play video games and the ones that have been on your phone for ages but you just never bothered to play. You can play other games like the Snake and Ladder and card games with siblings or your friends whenever they come around. that are around. I’m not sure I ever met anyone who hated games – well, except me.
I was going to say exercise then I remembered we were supposed to be talking about fun things. Not everyone thinks of exercises as fun but dancing is fun to a lot of people. Play your favourite dance hall on your radio and totally let go. Besides burning calories, you’d have fun doing this. You won’t know how much fun it is until you try.
Catch up on social media
These days, the easiest way to be up to date on the latest gists and news is to be on social media. It’s fun, too, when all you want to do is scroll through the profiles of your friends and feed your eyes on their posts especially on Instagram.
Whatever you do, enjoy the weekend and be ready to face the new week all pumped up.
