Ever heard the saying “Happiness is Golden“? Well, guess not, forget “silence”,  happiness truly is golden in every sense of the word! Lol… And might I add, nothing, absolutely nothing should be allowed to rob you of this precious gift.

Everyone deserves their shot at happiness and lord knows the reverse leads to many headaches; mentally, emotionally, physically…leading to dissatisfaction with ourselves and life in general.  So make no mistake, an unhappy mind leads to an unhealthy individual in the long run and this is no exaggeration.

Are you constantly battered psychologically by certain negative behaviours or habits, conquer them with these tips and say hello to a blissful and more fulfilling life. 5 toxic behaviours you should get rid of real quick;

1.  You’re a people pleaser

Yes it is certainly a nice thing to want to make others happy but bending over backwards every single time would no doubt make you one unhappy individual. It’s normal to fear rejection from others, but don’t dwell on this feeling because if you do, you’ll most likely end up in the resentment zone which wouldn’t be obviously doing you any favours. Drop the unnecessary baggage, believe you deserve happiness and revel in it.

2.  You constantly compare yourself with others

Okay I get it, at your every turn are seemingly perfect individuals doing well for themselves while you look at your life which by the way isn’t any way close to theirs, so why shouldn’t you get jealous, right? Wrong! This is a negative habit which plays a major role in your unhappiness. Besides, their lives aren’t perfect either so stop being intimidated. Encourage yourself, strive to become a better you and just be grateful and happy, after all some others pray to be in your shoes.

3.  You keep mute when you’re angry/ something is wrong

Keeping it all locked up offers you straight access to depression; it affects your happiness, relationships plus, your physical health, dangerous huh? Although we’re not advocating spilling every single detail about your life, it is important to speak up when something makes you unhappy so you can address them. If you feel you’re being taken advantage off, try to speak out. Others have the right to happiness and so do you.

4.  Love means pain to you

Who says love has to mean enduring while a whole lot of trash gets shoved down your throat? Yes you want sweet everlasting love but love shouldn’t only be about endurance! Yes there will be times when you have to “endure” certain things, but when this phase consumes every aspect of your relationship, it’s best to reconsider things. Love should give you happiness not pain , at least 90% of the time anyway. True love encourages us to grow while offering support, not rendering you in shreds while at it.

5  You allow fear chain you

Contrary to what you might think, comfort zone, never truly offers you comfort; it makes you feel inadequate and insecure instead. Fear of failure holds you down and never allows you the opportunity to experience happiness. Fear dictates your life and holds you bound, thereby leaving you depressed and wallowing in the pain of unfulfilled dreams.

Break out of these unhealthy behaviour and you’ll be smiling all the way! Happy living…

  1. This is a nice compilation. It would have benefited my younger self. As I get older, I am mastering the balance of being nice to others and being happy with myself.

Sometimes, I feel happy just by getting up in the morning, dressing really nice and catching glimpses of my cute self on glass buildings as I pass by.

  2. Point 5 is apt!

  3. Yes to them all!!!!!
I used to be a bottler of feelings/opinions but lately, I have learned to speak out and boy have i ever felt freer!
So yes to not pleasing everyone
Yes to me accepting myself, knowing I am different and that’s okay
Yes to me cutting off stressful relationships
    And oh, fuck fear!!!

    Happiness is truly golden!

  4. Sadly I don’t agree to all points. It’s possible though for some people but all 5 don’t agree with me. I can say I’m not happy as I should be but definitely don’t do any of the 5. My take

  5. In my teens, I used to be a ‘people pleaser ‘boy! I can please for Africa……but my mum saw that it was hurting me and at the same time she noticed I wasn’t confident and I developed an inferiority complex sort of. Why? Because I denied myself happiness, even though I didn’t know what I was doing to myself then…..thank God mom was observant. I can’t really remember details of how she delivered me from that entanglement….lol, but I’m glad she was around then to help me out.

Denying yourself happiness, eventually generates to a series of malfunctioning system within you both physically, psychologically and health wise.

One way to help yourself is to deliberately make a conscious effort to make yourself happy.

  6. As much as it is not easy to swallow all these five tips hook, line and sinker one has to start from somewhere.. How dem dey talk am.. A thousand miles begin with a single step.. (I hope I got that quote right).
