Appetite Overdrive? Curb Your Appetite And Feel Satisfied With These 5 Tricks!

Often find yourself snacking your day away yummy comfort snacks; Pringles, chocolates, sweets, popcorn…oh yeah, the list just goes on and on, doesn’t it? Lol… Somehow your tummy seems to have an unruly mind of its own and keeping still/ satiated is one language it clearly has refused to understand, growling and growling for even more food any day anytime! Painfully familiar huh? Don’t sweat it, you’re not alone. Most of us tend to struggle with this problem and contrary to what you might think, it’s not a function of weight. Often times we tend to ignore warning signs that we’ve reached our limit when we’re stressed/ bored out of our minds, we just keep popping in those calories –  “delicious inspiration” which gets our appetite on an over drive. But not too worry, you can gain control! 5 tricks to help suppress your appetite keeping you feeling full;

1. Never skip breakfast

You’ve probably heard breakfast is the most important meal of the day, well, its no exaggeration. Apart from the fact that it gives you strength to take on the day’s work, it also helps you maintain a healthy body weight, stuffing you up so you don’t go snacking and gulping down high calorie intakes. Breakfast helps prevent you from getting unnecessarily hungry, which makes you over eat and of course we all know the many other complications which come with that.

2. Snack on healthy foods

Hunger pangs can be real frustrating, but dealing with it via unhealthy snacks isn’t the way to go. Do healthy snacks like fruits and vegetables, plus, you could mix jazz your intake a bit so you don’t get bored with the whole healthy eating routine. Consuming healthy meals which contain vitamins and minerals is a great way to curb that appetite as you don’t get to consume as many calories compared to depending on snacks and the likes. Great news, that’s not all, healthy foods aren’t addictive and can help avoid hunger pangs. The more sweets, biscuits and drinks you consume, the more those hunger pangs keep coming. Avoid unhealthy meals.

3. Smaller plates work magic

Smaller plates

It might sound silly, but using smaller plates to eat actually helps curb your appetite and hey, it’s pretty obvious why – the bigger the plate, the more you tend to consume, thus, leading to overeating. If you’re married don’t often feel obligated to eat with your partner as it would most likely make you eat more. Do small plates and trim that appetite, it helps keep your mind and tummy focused on being healthy. Nice!

4. Get off your butt and exercise

Yup, you read right! Although exercise might sound a tad stressful but don’t worry, it comes with great benefits. Working up a sweat  helps you shed pounds while removing your mind off food. Taking a brief walk can help suppress that appetite allowing you to feel less hungry. Careful though, so you don’t view it as a torturous experience as this may have adverse effect, making you feel the need to reward yourself with some junk food. Not funny. In essence, exercise decreases food craving. Well, what are you waiting for?

5. Embrace mindful eating

No doubt, overeating is a struggle, but with mindful eating you can overcome it. Pace your meals and limit distractions; watching television, chatting or even working can cause you to over eat as you wouldn’t be gauging what’s going down which would most likely lead to portions going overboard. It is also advised while eating to eat slowly and chew properly prior swallowing, so your brain can take time to digest the flavour and the food enough time to reach the stomach, so you don’t get hungry real quick.

Apply these tricks and you’ll be on your way to having your desired body weight.

Good luck!
