President Buhari promises to pay the Super Falcons in two days

President Muhammadu Buhari has reportedly promised to pay the Super Falcons in two days.

Chief of Staff to the president Abba Kyari, speaking on behalf of the president, assured the ladies their bills would be offset in two days and accepted a letter from the ladies to the president.

“You girls will be paid in two days time”, he said.

Earlier today, Wednesday, December 14, players of Nigeria’s senior women’s national team, the Super Falcons, staged a protest at the gates of the National Assembly, Abuja to press for the payment of their unpaid bonuses and allowances in hopes of getting the attention of the president, who was due to visit the National Assembly to present the 2017 budget.

Since two weekends ago when the Falcons won the 2016 Africa Women’s Cup of Nations, the players have been in a sit-in protest at Agura Hotel Abuja over unpaid entitlements by the Nigeria Football Federation, NFF, but since that yielded no results, hence the decision for a protest at NASS.

The players are claiming that each of them is being owed the sum of N12.3m by the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF).

The Falcons on Saturday, December 3 beat Cameroon to win the 2016 AWCON for the 8th time and have since not been paid their dues.
