Last week, Mkhitaryan became the scorpion king.

He rode high on his horse, his crown glittering on his head as he accepted the lordly cheer that was thrown his way.

But yesterday, last week became a long time ago as Mkhitaryan was dethroned, and disrobed.

We have a new king people.

He is less a charming bunny rabbit, and more akin to a lumbering yet weirdly efficient towering antelope.
Whisper his name softly. Whisper it before you go to bed.

Olivier Giroud. Scorpion King. Poof!

It was simple, yet so aesthetically pleasing that this writer kept watching reruns of it.

The move began deep in Arsenal’s half, where Giroud’s sixty metre run to the opposition’s 18 yard area began.

And when Sanchez supplied that sumptuous cross, my heart leapt into my mouth at Giroud’s improvised finish.

Arsenal later went on to win 2-0 thanks to another goal by Alex Iwobi.

Elsewhere, a couple of braces from England international, Harry Kane, and the ever improving Dele Alli meant that Tottenham Hotspurs began the year on a high. Watford was thoroughly outclassed as Tottenham ran away 1-4 victors.

The result saw Tottenham leapfrog Manchester City, who lost 1-0 to Liverpool, into fourth place.

At Old Trafford, a resurgent Manchester United came from behind to beat Middlesbrough 2-1 thanks to goals from French internationals Anthony Martial and Paul Pogba.

The result means that Manchester United are just 3 points from Champions league qualification zone.

Chelsea dominated a 6 goal thriller against Stoke City, a brace from Willian and a stunning effort from Diego Costa the highlights of the affair.

The match ended 4-2, meaning that Chelsea have equalled Arsenal’s 2000/2001 record of 13 straight premier league victories.

Premier league action continues today, with West Ham’s match vs Manchester United the pick of the bunch.
