Deputy Commandant, Vigilante Group of Nigeria, Emmanuel Ayisire, on Tuesday said it would collaborate with other security agencies to ensure safety and peace during and after the February general elections.

Ayisire made the assertion while speaking with agency reporter in Lagos.

He said the group was also planning to have a seminar in Abuja with the aim of putting its members in the right frame of mind for the polls.

“The seminar is also aimed at contributing our quota to maintaining peace and stability during and after the elections,’’ he said.

He also disclosed that the group had nothing less than 4,000 members in each state of the federation.

“I may not be able to give an estimated figure but in each of the state, including the Federal Capital Territory, we have not less than 4,000 men,’’ he said.

On the figure of arrests the group made in 2014, the deputy commandant said he could not give an exact figure, adding that they were very effective in the past year.

Ayisire assured Nigerians that the group was doing everything possible, while collaborating with other security agencies to make sure the country was crime-free.

He also said that the responsibility of the group was to arrest suspects and hand them over to the police for prosecution.

He added that it did not compete with the police in crime fighting.
