In February, the national leader of the All Progressive Congress (APC), Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu, in an interview stated his readiness to contest for the presidency if the right opportunity presented itself, while most received this declaration with mixed feelings, others thought it a joke, considering he had single-handedly brought into power the government of the day. Many others also saw his declaration as a challenge that must be marched or squashed.

Happenings.com.ng, is privy to information, that the right opportunity the chieftain was referring to, is now. In a few months, the electioneering fever will begin and politicians all over the country, have been plotting their strategy to emerge the relevant candidate for respective political positions, on their party’ platform and there are also efforts to position candidates, to emerge victorious.

Recently, publisher of the Ovation Magazine and former Presidential aspirant of NCP, Chief Dele Momodu, gave his own interpretations to the comment made by the founding National Chairman of the APC, Chief Bisi Akande who during a meeting of the South West leaders of the ruling party, made it clear there was no automatic ticket for President Muhammadu Buhari.

In his opinion on the matter, Chief Dele Momodu pointed out that Yoruba leaders were preparing a former governor of Lagos State and national leader of the APC, Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu, for the presidency come 2019. He said the decision is born out of frustration, adding that the Yoruba leadership will no longer support any other tribe for presidency.

Part of his article reads, “What Baba Akande has not said is simply, that days when the Presidency would be voluntarily zoned to exclude most sections of the country in favour of another section, whether the candidate presented and supported by the people is competent or useless, are over.

“The truth is zoning never worked anyway, as some Presidential candidates left their original parties for other parties in defiance of the zoning formula of their own party. The campaign has probably started in earnest, culminating in the search for a Yoruba Presidency.

“Though the Governor of Ekiti State, Dr Peter Ayodele Fayose has controversially but ceremoniously thrown his hat into the ring, it is the fact that the capo di tutti capi, Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu, may be warming up for his turn to take a major shot at the race of his life that is most significant.

“Mark my words. One of the greatest political strategists in Nigeria, Tinubu is tired of being a kingmaker and he would rather be the king.

“Indeed, that has always been his ambition but this has been largely curtailed by circumstances.” He concluded.

Like Chief Momodu rightly said, although Tinubu’s ambition has not been made public, sources revealed that unfolding events around him may be pointing in that direction, coupled with the fact, that he has been relegated to the background in the affairs of the government he worked so hard to put in power.

It is also rumored that he has at different times rebuffed all attempts to mend fences with the government of the day and this with the current statements has placed him high on the watch list of those who are a threat to the second term ambition of the president.

Sources also alleged that the recent meeting of 17 Southern Governors in Lagos, is at Tinubu’s insistence, as their position also corroborates his earlier statement on the devolution of power.

It was also reported that Tinubu has been receiving some late night visitors of northern extract in his Bourdillon home recently, over their readiness to back him should he declare his intention to run.

This, sources alleged has seen people who seem to be gaining from this government, up their ante over making sure his ambition does not see the light of day. By going as far as putting machinery in place to eavesdrop on his private conversations.

Sources even alleged a plan to arrest him over issues that borders on corruption, is in place. This according to a source is also a reason Wale Tinubu’s company is suddenly in the eyes of the storm.

Although the president is said to be in the dark about all of these plans, however, there are those who feel their work and position is being threatened if the president fails to return.

Thus are scheming and fighting to silence any form of opposition towards their 2019 re-election bid of the president.
