Anambra state records crime free Yuletide

Anambra Police Command on Tuesday commended its’ residents and the state government for their support in crime fighting and prevention during the Yuletide.

The command’s Public Relations Officer, Mr Uche Eze, said that the support both parties gave the police during the period was ”very overwhelming”.

“For the first time in a long while, people call my office from all over the state to thank the police for the exceptional security measures. “It is on record that there was no significant security breach along major roads or neighbourhoods during the yuletide, even till date,’’ Eze said.

He said residents of the state made use of the free-toll 122 hotline effectively, which helped the police to easily monitor activities in the entire state simultaneously.

The police spokesman, therefore, urged members of the public to keep cooperating with the police as well as other security agencies.

“For the first time in the history of Anambra, nobody had reported burglary or people knocking on his window or door to threaten his or her peace,’’ he said.

On the security in Onitsha, Eze said the town was now calm and peaceful following sustained raids, patrols and surveillance of the city.

“Nobody stops anyone or will stop anyone moving freely in Upper Iweka and other axis of Onitsha as those gangsters brandishing pistols had been chased away from the state.

“And we have succeeded in smashing all crime syndicates and hideouts in the commercial city,’’ he said.(NAN)
