According to the Nigerian Tribune, influencial Northern Leaders in Nigeria are mounting pressure on the three leading APC presidential aspirants to agree on a candidate for the party’s 2015 presidential bid.
Major-General Muhammadu Buhari; former vice president, Alhaji Atiku Abubakar and Governor Musa Kwankwaso have each obtained the presidential nomination forms of the APC, preparatory to its national convention, which may be attended by 10,000 delegates.
Before now, the adoption of the modified direct primaries by party’s National Executive Committee (NEC) had elicited mixed feelings within the camps of the leading contestants for the ticket.
Apart from the governors of three of the APC aspirants in the North, virtually all the other governors of the party had already queued behind Buhari.
Accordingly, some of the northern leaders had made tactical approach to one of the aspirants on the possibility of his stepping down, so as to brighten the chances of another considered as capable of leading the party through the election.
