We celebrate Nigeria’s very own Akinwunmi Ambode!
A native of Epe, Lagos, Ambode was born June 14, 1963 to late Festus Akinwale Ambode (a teacher) and Christianah Oluleye Ambode (nee Oresanya) an entrepreneur.
Akinwumi Ambode is a graduate of the university of Lagos, he studied Accounting and graduated in the year 1984 at the age of 21. He became a chartered accountant at the age of 24, also having his Masters Degree in Accounting.
In the year 2005 he became the permanent secretary of the Ministry of Finance, Lagos Sate. Eventually he was appointed the Accountant-General of Lagos State.
He was a civil servant for 27 years and a financial consultant before running for public office as Governor of Lagos State in 2015.
Ambode ran for office of the Governor of Lagos State in April 2015 as a member of the All Progressives Congress, the state’s ruling party, he won the election, defeating the second-place candidate by more than 150,000 votes. He began his tenure as the governor of Lagos on 29 May 2015, he succeeded Babatunde Fashola.
Akinwunmi Ambode is a member of several professional bodies including: Fellow of the Institute of Chartered Accountants of Nigeria (ICAN) and a Member of the Nigerian Institute of Management. He is also the founder of La Roche Leadership Foundation, a non-profit organization whose primary aim is developing the next generation of leaders.
Ambode is married to Bolanle Patience Ambode (nee Odukomaiya).
He turns 54 today.
