An FCT Area Court in Lugbe, Abuja, on Thursday, sentenced a scavenger, Musa Ibrahim, to three months in prison for breaking a car windscreen.
Ibrahim, 31, of Iddo Sabon village, Airport Road, Abuja, was sentenced on a one-count charge of mischief.
The Judge, GamboGarba, in his ruling, sentenced Ibrahim after he pleaded guilty to the crime and begged the court for leniency.
However, the judge gave him an option to pay N5,000 fine.
Garba warned the convict to desist from committing crime and also ordered him to replace the complainant’s car windscreen which he broke.
Earlier, the prosecutor, Cpl. IliyaMaji, had told the court that one Alex Joseph of Iddo Sabon village, Airport Road, Abuja, reported the matter at Iddo Police Station, Abuja, on March 10.
Maji said that Ibrahim broke the front windscreen of the complainant’s car, valued at N10,000.
He added that the accused committed the offence on March 10 and ran away but was arrested during police investigation and he made confessional statement.
The prosecutor prayed the court to try the accused summarily after he admitted committing the crime.
He also prayed that compensation be given to the complainant, in line with Section 78 of the Penal Code, saying the offence contravened Section 327 of the Penal Code.
