Cristiano Ronaldo Becomes First Player to Be Escorted to the Field by A Disabled Person

Four-time World Best player and Real Madrid forward, Cristiano Ronaldo made history as the first player to walk onto the field with a disabled person.

The Portuguese forward walked out onto the field holding a disabled ten-year old girl, Polina Khayeredinova, just before the start of the Russia-Portugal football match of the 2017 Confederations Cup.

This is the first time a player will be accompanied by a disabled person in the history of football.

 This historic occurrence was made possible by McDonalds, official sponsor of the Confederations Cup. It aims at proving that football is possible for disabled children and to encourage them get to involved in international competitions.

Leaders of football teams taking part in the Confederations Cup will be escorted by disabled children in each of the host cities, Moscow, St. Petersburg, Kazan and Sochi.
