Ace comedian and event compere, Alibaba is one of the comedians that has made the comedy business a lucrative one, without mincing words, he paved way for the likes of AY, Teju Babyface, Gbenga Adeyinka and other notable comedians in the country.
But just like the popular saying that, Rome wasn’t built in a day, the cool showbiz impresario didn’t have it rosy from the beginning.
In a conversation with happenings.com.ng Alibaba shared his journey to stardom after facing series of challenges and intimidations to become famous saying “Between 1993 and 1998… I decided to break into the corporate world in a big way.
“So I started hunting through newspapers for seminars and workshops for senior managers and executives. I combed every advert for AGMs, book launches, product launches and any event that had the gathering of businessmen. Especially the top cadre. Then I landed this NNPC deal through Dr Ify Nwakesi.
“I was booked for like a month every other month. This was the beginning of the true comedic edge for me. Because I needed to be fresh everyday. So, I would listen to every deliberation during the seminar, workshop, launch, meeting… And then make jokes out of all I had heard.
“This was how I finally broke into NNPC senior management. Many of the people I performed for became Group Executive Directors. And 3 of them became Group Managing Directors… go figure. My point, always impress at every opportunity you have. You definitely will be setting up your self for bigger opportunities.”
