Derby County Shock Manchester United In Carabao Cup


Manchester United have been knocked out of the Carabao Cup by Championship side Derby County.

The Frank Lampard managed side won 8-7 on penalties after playing out a 2-2 draw with the Red Devils in Regulation time.

United Goalkeeper Sergio Romero saw red mid-way into the second half as Jones saw his spot kick saved.

Mata gave the home side the lead three minutes into the game when he curled into the bottom right corner after a fine team move. Martial, Lukaku and Lingard were involved in the crisp counter attacking move.

Harry Wilson scored a superb 30-yard free-kick to draw level on 59 minutes before playing a part in Romero’s sending off.

Jack Marriott headed from close range after a brilliant save by Grant to put Derby in the lead five minutes from time.

But Marounne Fellaini levelled things up with a strong header five minutes into stoppage time.

United tried to get a winning goal in the last minute of the game as their fans screamed ‘attack! attack! attack!’ but it wasn’t to be for the Reds.

After 15 expertly dispatched penalties, Phil Jones finally missed the deciding kick to hand Derby County a deserved victory.

Manchester United have now lost two games at Old Trafford this season. They also played a 1-1 draw last weekend against Wolves at the Theatre of dream.
