Although, the former Governor of Kano State, Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso has denied rumours about his defection to the People’s Democratic Party (PDP), there is a cloud of uncertainty and suspicion that hangs over his continuous stay in the All Progressive Congress (APC), disclosed a source. On Tuesday, the 15th of August 2017, the news went viral that Senator Rabiu Kwankwaso has defected from the ruling APC, to the opposition PDP.

Senator Kwankwaso reportedly defected with 10 other Kano State Lawmakers and his defection may be in connection with his ordeals in APC and the running battle he has been having with his successor, Gov. Umar Ganduje. In retrospect, last year, the leadership of the APC, Kano Chapter, had initiated moves to suspend him, over allegations of anti-party activities.

However in a swift move, to dispel defection rumours, a statement issued by his Personal Assistant, Nafiu Umar Dankura in Daily Trust, says “I want to categorically dispel the rumour and fake news, that is circulating in the online media and radio stations that Senator Rabiu Kwankwaso has defected to the PDP. This is not true, as we all know he played a key role in the formation of APC and he is still one of the strong pillars of the party”.

Meanwhile, sources say that Kwankwaso’s  defection rumours into the  PDP camp, is not unfounded, as the former Governor is seriously working towards, a realization of his presidential ambition in 2019.

Kwankwaso is said to have been making orchestrated moves within the APC, to sell his ambition to other leaders of the party, particularly leaders of the Northern extractions. While he pursues this ambition, within the APC camp, thus speculations of “There is no smoke without a fire” as the PDP leadership is nursing the desire to have him back in the fold and he may be entertaining them.

Sources say Kwankwaso is hell bent on realizing his presidential ambition and may go back to the PDP fold, if his presidential dream will be realized with them.

The source goes further to say that the denial by his Personal Assistance, should be taken with a pinch of salt, because in politics, there are no permanent friends or enemies, except permanent interest, hence his  realization of his 2019  presidential ambition will gauge his continuous stay in APC.
