Nigeria is a country rich in traditions and culture, thus there are several festivals that are embodiments of these beliefs.

One such festival is the Ofala Festival in Anambra state, on the 6th of October 2018.

Furthermore, the Ofala  Festival is done yearly and the indigenes of Onitsha are its major participants. The Ofala Festival is a beautiful display of Onitsha’s bountiful cultural heritage.

Participants shut down the commercial centre of Eastern Nigeria, as a result of several cultural processions.

In addition, the Ofala Festival is a rite of renewal of the Obi of Onitsha.

The traditional ruler of Onitsha; the Obi of Onitsha, His Majesty Igwe Nnaemeka Alfred Achebe. Agbogidi (All Powerful) blessed the event.

Speaking at the event, the Obi said Nigeria was more divided than ever.

In his own words:

“Today, our country is experiencing deep chasms in various aspects of our national life including political, social and religious life. Indeed, many analysts at home and abroad have characterised our country as drifting closer to the precipice today than any time since the civil war almost fifty years ago.”
