The city of Lagos hosted one of the most significant entertainment awards, the African Magic Viewers Choice Award (AMVCA), this past weekend (Saturday, 1st September 2018) and as expected celebrities strutted their stuff on the red carpet; blowing their fans away with their fashion statements.
While several celebrities were quite impressive with their fashionable attires, there were those who may have committed unforgivable fashion faux pas.
Here are the fashion hits and misses according to the Happenings fashion police.

Fashion Hits
While some celebrities both male and female were daring with their style, others played it safe and opted for classy simplicity. We are here for the impressive style of:

Cee-C

Cynthia Nwadiora, also known as Cee-C, shot into the limelight because of how controversial she was in Big Brother Naija 2018. Resplendent in a red number created by fashion giant, Lanre Da Silva Ajayi, Cee-C was a vision in red and gold. The gorgeous dress was fitted to perfection and it flattered her enviable figure. The simple, yet visible cape, did not distract from the beauty of her dress. If Cee-C intends to slay with simplicity, she has us flat on our backs.

Rita Dominic

Veteran Nollywood actress, Rita Dominic is a household name, with regards class and fashion. As expected, she did not disappoint her fans, who were anticipating what her AMVCA2018 dress would be. Rita Dominic was wearing a dark blue evening dress from Tubo. The unique thing about Rita Dominic’s dress is not just in the vibrant colour which flattered her beautiful light skin, but the top and bottom half of the dress was different. The top half of her dress is an off-shoulder billowy fabric in satin, and the bottom half is figure hugging but in a more subdued fabric. Rita’s fashion screamed panache.

Omotola Jalade-Ekehinde

Veteran Nollywood actress, Omotola Jalade-Ekehinde, popularly known as Omo Sexy, wowed us with her first AMVCA dress – for her second look, not so much. She was indeed adventurous with her first dress. Although the statement piece had so much going on, there was harmony. The black creation is from Nonnistics fashion. It had the fringe, a shoulder bow, a dash of glitter and gorgeous black mesh as sleeves. How she pulled off what would have been a potential fashion disaster is beyond us, and we have to bow at her boldness.

Uchenwa Efuna

Speaking of bold, TV host, Uchenwa Efuna went for the ‘peekaboo’ look, which has become the latest rave with women on the red carpet. The ‘Peekaboo’ look is quite daring, and it entails a dress in lace or sheer fabric. The trick of pulling the ‘Peekaboo’ look is that, while showing some skin, one must be tasteful and not gaudy. Uchenwa Efuna wore a beautiful white number which was lacy and feathery, with just the right hint of skin.

Munirat Antoinette Lecky

Cee-C was not alone in her slay at the AMVCA2018 as Anto also stole the limelight. She wore a peach coloured dress from Bibi Lawrence. The beautiful dress had a hint of gold and a one-shoulder cape. The thigh-high slit of her dress, gave the illusion of longer legs, on the otherwise petite celebrity.

Well done Anto!

Shaffy Bello

Veteran Nollywood actress Shaffy Bello is known for her artistic prowess and timeless beauty.  The much older woman oozed class on the red carpet of the AMVCA2018. While many opted for the figure-hugging evening dress, Shaffy Bello went for ballroom magnificence from Fouad Sarkis Couture in a demure colour. Apparently, bigger is always better.

Daala Oruwari

TV personality, Daala Oruwari stood out with her style on the red carpet of the AMVCA2018 because she opted for futuristic, while others went for the princess look. Her silver sequin, figure-hugging monostrap dress from Christal wears, and her bald hairstyle screamed ‘fearless slay’.

Denola Grey

How can we forget the male slay on the red carpet of the AMVCA2018. TV host and media personality Denola Grey won the best-dressed man in our opinion. He dared the gods of fashion and came out on top, as he is dressed in a printed tuxedo from Rhobes clothing, fitted to perfection. Not many can get away with wearing the printed suit, but Denola pulled it off.

Fashion Misses

While our favourite celebrities took our breaths away, there were those guilty of several unforgivable fashion faux pas. Here are the cringe-worthy fashion statements on the red carpet of AMVCA2018

Bamike Olawuni

Former Big Brother Naija housemate, Bamike Olawuni, popularly known as Bam Bam, made a cringe-worthy fashion mishap on the red carpet of the AMVCA2018. She wore a tube-like ballroom dress from, House of Jahdara wholly covered in feathers, leaving many asking, ‘what she was thinking’. Bam Bam who is slight of build, looked like she was swallowed whole in her dress, even worse she came off as wearing a feathered canopy. If she was going for the all feathered look, she should have opted for a figure-hugging number. While BamBam’s outfit choice is a monumental miss, 48-hours later, her dress is still on everybody’s lips. If she intended to make a fashion statement, she failed, but she is trending for sure on the Nigerian social media space. Hopefully, she is ready for the barrage of memes about her dress to flood the internet in the coming months.

Toyin Lawani

Celebrity designer, Toyin Lawani is known for her enviable fashion sense; however, she was a miss on the red carpet of the AMVCA2018. Two words for Toyin Lawani’s dress ‘too much’, plus it lacked harmony. The colour of the dress is an ombre blue and silver, in a piece of fabric that was excessively shiny, she even threw into the mix the ballroom fashion.

Yep! just too much is going on.

Eniola Badmus

Nollywood actress Eniola Badmus’ outfit on the red carpet of AMVCA2018, was a monumental miss. The first rule of fashion for curvy women is, a curvy woman must accentuate her curves, in a flattering manner. Hiding her curves would only make her look bigger. The unflattering red dress with the hideous mesh was a no-no for Eniola Badmus on the red carpet.

Lillian Afegbai

The first rule of wearing the ‘peekaboo’ dress, is that you either go daring all the way and not wear underwear or you wear nude underwear. TV producer, Lillian Afegbai would have pulled off the look but we saw her thongs rather obvious in the dress, what would have been a beautiful attire, looked quite thrashy.
