According to Forbes, Johnny Depp is the most overpaid actor of 2015 with his recent films Mortdecai and Transcendence returning a mere $1.20 for every $1 he was paid.
Adam Sandler who held the title for the last two years was deemed ineligible due to his current Netflix deal. Denzel Washington was crowned runner-up with return on investment standing at $6.50 for every $1 he was paid.
According to Forbes, Depp used to be able to rake in the dough. The last four Pirates of the Caribbean films grossed $3.7 billion.
Depp’s film Mortdecai, which was released in January, earned a mere $47 million and cost $60 million to make. Transcendence, from 2014, also barely made back what it cost — $100 million. Black Mass earned $94.5 million.
In Depp’s defense, Forbes notes that his upcoming sequels Alice Through the Looking Glass and Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Men Tell No Tales will likely score at the box office.
