Forensic crime series, CSI, comes to end

US Network CBS has confirmed that the long-running crime investigation series, which has lasted 15 years,is coming to an end and is set to go out with a bang in a two-hour film special this autumn.

The feature-length special will see the return of original cast members William Petersen and Marg Helgenberger as Gil Grissom and Catherine Willows, along with current star Ted Danson.

The show first aired in 2000 and proved so popular that it spawned three spin-offs: CSI: Miami, CSI: NY and CSI: Cyber. Both CSI: Miami and CSI: NY have since been cancelled but ran for 10 and nine respectively.

Ted will be moving CSI: Cyber, which has been recommissioned for a second season.

Big Hollywood stars have also featured on the show, including Laurence Fishburne and Elisabeth Shue.

The show also saw a young Justin Bieber play child genius and serial killer Jason McCann, who ended up meeting a sticky end in season 11.

The last episode will be aired September 27 on CBS.
