A tragic incident left the area of Bariga in chaos yesterday January 23 after a group of cultists set a 65-year-old woman and a couple of others ablaze inside a house during an alleged gang war.

According to reports, the house which is located at No.19 Oshinfolarin Street, Bariga, was set on fire by hoodlums as an act of retaliation. In his statement, the general manager of Lagos State Emergency Management Agency, Michael Akindele revealed that the cultists had been terrorising the area since Friday before attacking the building which was set on fire with its occupants still inside. Unfortunately, the 65-year-old woman was the only one who died during the incident.

He stated, “A 65 yrs old woman known as Adejoke Adefuye was burnt beyond recognition in one of the rooms. She was the only mortality recorded and has been taken to the morgue by SEHMU, other occupants of the building, who sustained minor injuries have been treated by LASAMBUS.“However, the whole occupants of the building have been displaced and might need urgent temporary shelter. The inferno was finally put out at 11:55am.”

Security operatives are currently carrying out proper investigations on the incident.
