Tournament hosts Ghana hit the back of the net four times  to secure a 4-1 victory over their fierce rivals Nigeria and lift  the  2017 WAFU Cup of Nations trophy  at the Cape Coast Sports Stadium in  Cape Coast on Sunday.

The Blacks Stars’ victory, which was a sweet revenge after their 2-0 by  the Super Eagles in the group stages, was made possible by  Stephen   Sarfo, who scored a brace,    Atinga and Cobbina, who grabbed a goal each in the game. Nigeria goalkeeper Ikechukwu Ezenwa was beaten twice  from the spot. Rabiu Ali scored Nigeria’s only goal via  a stunning  free-kick.   Ghana  claimed  $100,000 for their efforts.

The Ghanaians dominated the game from the beginning, missing some decent chances.

Sarfo, who was voted the Match-of the-Match,  put Ghana in front in the 44th  minute after making a good run into the box  to fire  past  Ezenwa.

The Black Stars  doubled their lead  14  minutes later  when substitute Patrick Razak   won   a penalty, which was converted by   Atinga.

Nigeria defender  Stephen Eze’s bad tackle on Razak earned Ghana another opportunity to score a goal from the spot in the 77th  minute.  Sarfo, who was saddled with the responsibility,  sent Ezenwa to the wrong direction to make it third  for his country.

Cobbina capitalised on Ezenwa’s blunder  to  make it four for the Black Stars. However,  Ali  beat  Ghana  goalkeeper Joe Addo in stoppage time to reduce the tally.

Niger Republic defeated Benin Republic  2-1 to finish third in  the tournament.
