Gunmen abduct two Catholic priests in Delta state

Gunmen have abducted one clergymen, Reverend Father Franklyn Odiaka, the Parish Priest of Catholic Church of Assumption (Zappa Parish), Asaba while the identity of the second victim is yet to be ascertained.

The two priests were returning from a ceremony in honor of the Bishop of Issele-Uku Diocese, Most Rev. (Dr.) Michael Elue, when they were intercepted by the gunmen on the road.

Anxious parishioners of Assumption Catholic Church were on Friday spotted at the church premises, gathered in clusters as they discussed plans for marathon prayers against the abductors of the parish priest, Fr. Odiaka who many describe as a fiery and charismatic clergyman.

Fr Odiaka’s abduction comes barely two weeks after hoodlums broke into his church and carted away an undisclosed amount of money from the parish treasury.

Delta state public relations officer, DSP Celestina Kalu confirmed the kidnap of the Catholic Priests but said information about the situation was still sketchy. Kalu however expressed confidence that the hoodlums would be apprehended and the clergymen freed unhurt.
