A combined team of Independent and Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission (ICPC) and Department of State Security (DSS) on Wednesday, raided No 1 Alimi Road Kaduna, the residence of former Vice President Namadi Sambo. Eyewitness report reveals that the armed operatives arrived at the house around 3pm and blocked traffic and pedestrians. The search lasted about two hours.

A resident who spoke on condition of anonymity says: “when they came, they threatened to shoot anybody who didn’t cooperate or who dared move close to the house”. With the operatives was an artisan who was responsible for accessing locked rooms by going in through the ceiling looking for documents and cash.

Reacting to the incident, former Vice President Sambo says through his spokesperson Malam Umar Sani that it had become a routine and they usually would find nothing after such raids. He said: “This is not the first time they are searching the house. They have been coming to search the house on several occasions. Today, they came with a court order and gave a copy of the court order to the CSO (Chief Security Officer) in the house. “After they finished the search, they wrote at the back page of the court order that they gave to the CSO that they didn’t find anything and they left. So, we are not surprised because it has now become a routine activity.”

The spokesperson for the ICPC, Mrs. Rasheedat Okoduwa, said that she was not aware of the search and thus could not comment.

This is will be the fifth time in three months that security operatives are raiding the former VP’s house.
