The Federal Government has called for the optimization of information communication technology to engender rapid economic growth in the country.
The Minister of Communication Mr. Adebayo Shittu, made the call at the 9th Lead Africa Think Tank award, held in Lagos over the weekend.
Mr. Shittu further revealed government’s plan to collaborate with entrepreneurs in Information and Communication Technology, in their bid to be self sufficient.
“The govt of Nigeria is also working on the number of partners to involve in the financing system that provides venture capital for start ups emanating from this sector. we know that when this is sustained, our development in ICT sector will be solidified because those who bring their venture capital come to take our greatest ideas away and take away our money”
The Lead Africa Think Tank Awards, is an annual corporate event that recognises and rewards governments, industries, companies and individuals that are making giant strides in their fields and contributing immensely to the economic society.
At the 9th edition of the award, Kwara State Governor, Abdulfatah Ahmed received the LEAD Project Africa ‘Man of the Year’ for 2017 award.
The State Commissioner for Information and Communication, Mahmud Ajeigbe received the award on behalf of the Governor at the ceremony.
Ooni of Ife His Imperial Majesty Oba Adeyeye Ogunwusi, was also awarded the Lead Royal Icon of the Year. He was represented by Oba Adeyemi-Asaoya of Isoya-Ile.
Award winning DJ Jimmy Jatt was also named as the Lead DJ of the year 2017.
Among the members of the panel of judges and advisory board of the award are Dr. Christopher Kolade (CON), former Nigerian High Commissioner to the U.K; Prof Tunde Samuel, World Bank Consultant on Development; Prof Oladapo Afolabi, Former Head of Service of Federation, and Oby Ezekwesili, former Minister of Education and Director of World Bank.
Others are Dr. Frank S. Udemba Jacobs (MON) – MAN, President; Mr Kyari Abba Bukar, Chairman, Nigeria Economic Summit Group; Prof Abigail Ogwuezzy, Unilag’s First Female Professor of Mass Communication. Alhaji G.B. Kankanrufi, D-G Advertising Practitioners Council of Nigeria (APCON) and Prof. Ralph Akinfeleye, D-G, Unilag FM.
