- On Wednesday, the 6th of June 2018, the commissioner of Police, Edgal Imohimi, paraded a woman, Joy Imeribe Akachi, for causing her husband grievous bodily harm, when she emptied a bucket of boiling water on him. This incident took place on the 29th of May, 2018 at 21, Karounwi street, Ijesha, Lagos state.
Investigations by the police revealed that the root cause of this act of violence was as result of a verbal altercation between husband and wife, the night before the incident. The wife who held on to the grudge after the argument, boiled water in a bucket and emptied it all over her unsuspecting husband.
This led to him getting severely burned. The supect while talking to Happenings said that she poured her husband hot water in self defense. According to Akachi, her husband would beat and starve her and their four children.
While addressing pressmen, the Lagos state commissioner of Police, Edgal Imohimi said the sudden rise of domestic violence in the state was worrying as this was coming barely a week after a woman stabbed her husband to death in Ikorodu, Lagos state.
The commissioner also advised that it was important for couples to see professionals, family members or religious leaders when there is marital conflict, as bottling up resentment would lead to much bigger issues in future.
