The Abia State Police Command has arrested one Chibuike Onwuchekwa for allegedly battering his 10-year old house help and applying salt and pepper to the injuries she sustained from the beating.
The incident happened in Umuga Ovom area of Obingwa LGA, Abia State. According to Eyewitnesses, Onwuchekwa and his wife had instructed the minor before they left for church last Sunday, to fetch water to fill two containers. However, when the couple returned from church, they discovered that the girl, for some reason, was unable to fill the containers.
It was reported that Onweka beat the girl severely, locked her up and left for an event with his wife, ignoring pleas from his neighbours. A resident of the community simply identified as Nkem disclosed that
they had to call the attention of the Police after the girl escaped from the house to report that Onwuchekwa applied a mixture of pepper and salt to the injuries she sustained from the beating she had earlier received.
Nkem also said that the girl had been the victim of constant beatings from Onwucheka. He also revealed that there was an instance where the victim was accused of theft in her school and her guardian beat her even though she was absolved of the crime by her teachers.
While confirming the incident, a senior Police officer at the Eastern Ngwa Division of the Command disclosed that the victim is currently receiving medical treatment.
