Manchester City have completed the signing of Raheem Sterling from Liverpool for a fee of £49million.

Sterling becomes the most expensive English player ever and will earn a reported £200,000-a-week.

The 20-year-old winger was signed by Liverpool as a 15-year-old from QPR in February 2010 and the Loftus Road club will receive 20% of the transfer as part of a sell-on clause.

Sterling has completed his move to end a drawn-out saga which saw him reportedly refuse to travel on Liverpool’s pre-season tour in Asia earlier this week.

It has also been widely publicised that he no longer wanted to work with Reds boss Brendan Rodgers.

The Liverpool manager was quick to dismiss a breakdown in their relationship – insisting that there is no hard feelings between him and Sterling: “Contrary to the last week or so, in terms of what was written, Raheem and I have always remained very strong in our relationship, and have been up until he left. There’s no issue there,” he told a press conference.

Sterling is expected to join his new teammates on their pre-season tour immediately – Manuel Pellegrini’s men are currently in Australia.
