Real Madrid fullback Marcelo has been slapped a 753,624.9 euros fine by Spanish state prosecutors for tax fraud and has a suspended four month prison sentence.

The fee was agreed after negotiations with Spanish authorities and would see Marcelo not spend time in prison. Spanish law states that a sentence of under two years for a first offence can be served on probation.

Marcelo is the latest sportsman to be charged and persecuted by Spanish tax authority for fraud. Former Madrid team-mate Cristiano Ronaldo had to agree to a two-year suspended sentence and a €19 million (£16.9m/$22.15m) fine. Barcelona’s Lionel Messi exchanged his 21-month prison sentence for a €250,000.

Deals have also been reached with prosecutors by Jose Mourinho, Luca Modric, Javier Mascherano and Angel di Maria.
