Right from time, soap operas have been one of the defining television moments for an average viewers, just like the endless Mexican soaps which captures us like magnet with their intriguing story lines.

However with utmost pride, we can at least state that the Nigerian film industry has improved tremendously, leading to better quality soaps and movies. Today we give you the most talked about series in Nollywood which has got Nigerians at the edge of their seats.

Everyone needs a good laugh at some point of their lives – ‘The Johnson’s family’ gives the maximum excitement needed to change a person’s mood. Despite the fact that the sitcom was premiered some months back it has spread like wild fire making it one of the most talked about TV series today. The Jonhsons which features top comic actors like Chinedu Ikedieze (Efe), Charles Inojie (Lucky) and Ada Ameh (Emu) tells the story of an average Nigerian family The sitcom central action is on Efetobore Johnson, a normal 15-year-old boy, struggling like every kid his age, with the challenges of being a teenager and on top of all that Efe has one other challenge that is completely unique to him – he’s only two feet tall.

If you fall under the category of people who are tired of seeing the regular Nollywood faces every time, then Lekki Housewives will be an interesting watch for you. Not only do viewers refer to it as Africa’s ‘Real Housewives’ and ‘Basketball Wives’ but it has all the “guilty pleasure juiciness” of your favorite reality TV shows. The Blessing Effiom Egbe production has captured the heart of movie loving Nigerians with the brilliance and technical suitability of the story.

Starring the likes of Adaora Ukoh-Miranda, Keira Hewatch-Peace,Katherine Obiang-Uju,Kiki Omeli-Loveth, and Chinonso Young-Cleopatra. Lekki is a high brow location in Lagos synonymous with wealth, power, and ostentatious lifestyles. Everything seems picture perfect for the Lekki wives on the outside, but behind the glitter and glamour they parade is the toughness and the struggle to live life on their own terms

It is not a surprise anymore that comedy movies or TV programmes are one of the most watched; Ojo’s in D’ House is one of the most talked about sitcoms at the moment since it started airing on one of pan African’s TV station, EbonyLife.

The TV drama centers on the flamboyant excesses of Mrs. Elizabeth Ojo, the matriarch of a nouveau riche family who recently moved from a lower middle-class neighborhood into a new, upper-class vicinity. The comedy drama features the likes of Najite Dede as Elizabeth Ojo, Jude Chukwuka as Tafaa Ojo, Taiwo Arimoro as Samuel Ojo, Odenike Odetola-Odeleye as Nicole Ojo, Funmi Eko as Mrs. Williams and Bassey Ekpenyong as Bitrus Pambot Nankut.

Today the Internet has become an omnipresent medium for everything related to the media, and that includes how people get their T.V. Since it appears easier to sign up for a YouTube account than a cable contract (for a multitude of reasons), Gidi Up is the leading web series drama in Nigeria – this series is already into its second season and has garnered a healthy following.

The series whose title is culled from the popular term “Las Gidi”, a nickname for Lagos city focuses on the lives of four young adults (Obi, Tokunbo, Eki and Yvonne) who are pursuing success and independence in the city of Lagos, revealing the challenges they are faced with at every step of the way in their quest to achieve their dreams. The series parades the likes of OC Ukeje, Somkele Iyamah, Adeyemi Okanlawon, Titi Sonuga, Bimbo Manuel, Iretiola Doyle just to mention a few.



As part of the drive to curb the spread of HIV as well as create awareness for AIDS, the MTV Staying Alive Foundation and MTV Base Africa has dedicated a TV series, Shuga to spread the word. The Shuga series has been around for three seasons now, with the third one shot in Nigeria for the first time.


The season three consist of 8 episodes which capture the essence of a lot of young people today in the diversity of Lagos. The third season of the hit series returns with a star-studded cast like Chris Attoh, Tiwa Savage, Lupita Nyong’o , Ikubese Emmanuel, Okezie Morro etc. and a good storyline to match.
