Saturday 24th February, 2018, will remain indelible in the minds of the All Progressives Congress (APC) members in Alimosho area of Lagos State as the meeting of members of the highly-populated constituency ended with a blaze of gun fire.
The meeting which took place at African Church Primary School in Mosan Okunola Local Council Development Area had party stalwarts in attendance.
However, the meeting came to an abrupt end when supporters of aspirants for offices in the forthcoming 2019 general elections took on each other in a free for all fight and members of the podium took to their heels.
Lagos State Commissioner for Wealth Creation, Alhaja Uzamat Akinbile Yusuf, the sister-in-law to the State Organising Secretary of APC, Hon. Abdullahi Enilolobo and a House of Representatives aspirant were among those who fled at the first sight of revolt from members who decried imposition of standard bearers in the constituency.
Also Hon. Adebisi Doris Adebajo, the Mosan Okunola Executive Chairman ran for dear life, in her flowing Ankara gown, calling desperately for her driver
Hon. Femi Adebanjo a.k.a ‘eyes open’ the member representing Alimosho federal constituency at the Federal House of Representatives was smuggled out of the venue.
Hon. Enilolobo attempt to put the situation under control was an exercise in futility as the sea of members were unmoved with his explanations.
Trouble started when Hon. Bisi Yusuf the two terms member in the Lagos State House of Assembly representing Alimosho Constituency 1 came into the meeting with his motley crowd of supporters declaring his third term agenda. Hon Yusuf’s bid to greet the gathering attracted boos and stoning with sachets water which left him dumbfounded.
The members were infuriated that the septuagenarian is vying for a third term in office.
Other aspirants whose campaign banners were hoisted at the meeting include Barr. Rotimi Ogunwuyi and Cooperator Shodiya.
Members insisted that the era of imposition, godfatherism and taking dictates from Governor Rauf Aregbesola of Osun State is over in Alimosho.
Hon. Enilolobo desperate attempt to sway the audience with financial inducement failed as no one listen to his donations of N200,000 to each of the 36 wards executives in the six councils in the constituency, N250,000 to the six Local Council Development Area party executives in the constituency, N250,000 to the party leaders in the six councils in the constituency, and to the six youth caucuses in the constituency. He was not allowed to finish the announcement before he was shouted down and he was boldly told to keep his ill-gotten money to himself.
Hon. Enilolobo and other party leaders were ferried out of the venue by policemen discharging bullets to scare away assumed assailants when the atmosphere became charged.
