Super Eagles of Nigeria handler, Gernot Rohr has made it known that he will try new formations in the international friendly match against Poland tomorrow.

In an interview granted earlier, the Super Eagles coach revealed that he will use the two international friendly matches against Poland and Serbia to try out new formations with his team.

“I hope to try different systems (in these matches), so we can change when necessary,” Rohr told reporters.

“We have played 4-3-3, 5-3-2 already. We also hope to improve team harmony after we did well in last two games, while playing offensive football,” he said.

Reliable sources very close to the team’s Radisson Blu Hotel camp in Wroclaw has confirmed that Gernot Rohr, Super Eagles technical adviser, is expected to build his tactics around either of the 4-3-3 or 3-4-3 formations.

During the recent World Cup qualifying matches, the Super Eagles of Nigeria excelled making use of the 4-3-3 system.
This formation gave room to Victor Moses and Alex Iwobi or Moses Simon depending on who was on the starting line up, the freedom to venture forward at will, hence terrorising the opponent’s defense while linking up effectively with either Kelechi Iheanacho or Odion Ighalo in the attack.

However, in the last friendly match against La Albiceleste of Argentina, the Nigerian technical team adopted the 3-5-2 formation which was quite strange to the players as confirmed by team Captain John Obi Mikel during the post match interview.

“We played a new system that we never played before, so we struggled to find our feet in the first half, but we improved after the break,” Mikel said.

The Nigerian team is work in progress, as the coach is still trying out different formations with the aim of finding a formation that will be best suited to the current crop of players at his disposal.
However in tomorrow’s match against the Bialo-Czerwoni (White and Reds) of Poland, there’s a huge possibility that the Super Eagles might switch back to a 4-3-3 formation which was extensively used to great effect during the world Cup qualifiers.

The friendly match against The White and Reds of Poland kicks off at 8.45pm Nigerian time on Friday inside the 43,000 capacity Municipal Stadium in Wroclaw, Poland.
The match will be transmitted live on SuperSport 8 on DSTV (SS8A) and SuperSport Select on GOTV (SLGO). The match will also be on terrestrial TV stations such as AIT and NTA.
