President Buhari Only Sought To Rebuild The North-East- Femi Adeshina

The Federal Government has denied the news making rounds that President Buhari requested the World Bank Group President Jim Yong Kim to concentrate intervention programmes only in Northern Nigeria.

The Special Adviser to the President on Media and Publicity Mr. Fermi Adeshina,  in a statement made available to newsmen on Friday, said “ignorant and mischievous people” are making it seem as if the President’s position is purposely to give the Northern part of the country undue advantage.

Media reports earlier today had it that Kim disclosed in Washington D.C, USA, that President Buhari had pleaded with the international organization to focus its developmental programmes only in Northern Nigeria.

The Presidency said the reported discussion between President Muhammadu Buhari and the World Bank Group President, Jim Yong Kim, was deliberately twisted by those, who it said, specialise in such acts.

Adesina explained that what the President did was to seek international support for the rebuilding of the North East that was ravaged by years of insurgency, which he said, is what every good leader would do.

The presidential spokesman said, “The truth of the matter is that President Buhari, right from his first week in office in June, 2015, had reached out to the G-7 in Germany that Nigeria needed help to rebuild the North-East, which had been terribly devastated by insurgency.
