It’s less than 58 days for the November 18 Anambra state Governorship election to take centre stage and consequently, different political scripts and fiasco has been emanating from the eastern Nigeria state.
The recent development is the emergence of Mrs. Chidi Ekwueme-Onyemelukwe, the daughter of First elected former Vice-President of Nigeria, Dr. Alex Ekwueme, as the running mate for the Peoples Democratic Party candidate Oseloka Obaze.
The All Progressives Congress (APC) also announced Hon. Dozie Ikedife (Jnr.) as running mate to the party’s candidate, Hon. Tony Nwoye.
Despite the controversies trailing the PDP primaries, being allegedly full of irregularities, some aggrieved candidates have been seeking a court injunction to nullify the victory of Mr Obaze, as the party flag bearer while requesting for another fresh primary election.
However, the PDP running mate, Mrs Chidi, is not new to the corridors of power. Apart from her being the daughter of a renowned politician, the political influence of her father would be needed for PDP to win the election.
Happenings gathered that the real reason she was picked among other top contenders and party loyalist was her experience and vast wealth of knowledge in the area of small and medium enterprises (SMEs). She reportedly gathered these while serving as a special assistant to former president Olusegun Obasanjo.
Sources close to the party chieftains said they feel such experience would be a huge compliment and an advantage to the candidate, which will in turn favour the state, if they eventually emerge as winner of the election.
