One of the many tourist attractions in the country is the Olumo Rock, located in the ancient town of Abeokuta, the Ogun State Capital.
The beautification and modernization of the rock was done by the former governor of Ogun State, Otunba Gbenga Daniel OGD through his company, Kresta laurel.
A functional elevator to ease climbing of the rock and other modern amenities were put in place at the tourist attraction by the former governor.
However, as you read this story, most of the amenities are shadows of themselves, especially the elevator. Tourists are now faced with the difficulty of moving up and down the rock without the elevator, a sharp deviation from what was obtainable in the past.
The refusal to maintain the facility, has been adduced as one of the major shortcomings of the Governor Ibikunle Amosun led administration.
Findings by Happenings.com.ng revealed that the reason Olumo Rock is suffering neglect is just because of politics, as the present All Progressives Congress APC administration, according to sources, is unwilling to release funds to Kresta Laurel, the company saddled with the statutory duty of maintaining the elevator.
Sources say the refusal to release funds is not unconnected to the fact that the company is owned by OGD, who is also a leader in the Peoples Democratic Party.
What is however not clear is how long this will continue and when tourists to the ancient rock will have a respite.
