The proposed arraignment of a retired Army General, Alhaji Abdul Rauf Tijani, for attempted murder and robbery before an Ikeja High Court, Lagos was stalled on grounds of illhealth of the defendant.
Tijani, was to be arraigned alongside Akanni Suada on Tuesday, on a five count charge bothering on attempted murder, robbery, assault, and killing an unborn child.
During the court proceeding and according to his lawyer, Mr. Oladapo Afolabi, the defendant was said to have slumped in Kirikiri Maximum prison where he was remanded and rushed to the hospital.
Mr. Afolabi said since then, he is yet to recover fully in order to appear in court for his arraignment, while asking for short adjourned date.
Meanwhile, at the last proceeding, Mr. Afolabi had pleaded for bail for his client whom he said is an Elder Statesman.
The presiding judge, Justice Hakeem Oshodi, however turned down the request and ordered that the defendant be remanded in prison custody pending his arraignment.
The matter was then adjourned to the 19th of March for commencement of trial.
