Argentina will take on Nigeria in an international friendly at Krasnodar Russia, today, 14th November 2017. The Nigerian Coach Gernot Rohr, is likely to make changes to the team that drew with Algeria.
There will be the unveiling of 19-year-old Deportivo La Coruna goal keeper, Francis Uzoho; as well the new call-up Brian Idowu. Both players were born in Russia but are eligible to play for Nigeria, in a friendly with Argentina at 5:30 pm local time.
It has been a good year for Nigeria, as she has lost only one game in 2017 , in matches that feature their squad members based outside of the African League.
The Super Eagles were undefeated, at the final round of the World Cup qualifer, thus becoming the first African team to book their place at the finals by clinching three wins in a row.
The Nigerian world cup qualifier’s group, which featured Algeria, Cameroon and Zambia, was indeed a difficult one to defeat, the remarkable performance and efforts of John Mikel Obi, Victor Moses, Kelechi Iheanacho and Alex Iwobi, made victory possible.
They will face their toughest test of the year, in the international friendlies with a worthy rival like Argentina (Albiceleste), although Lionel Messi will not play in this game, they are not short of goal scorers in Paulo Dybala and Sergio Aguero.
Although coach Jorge Sampaoli’s Albiceleste may have had a challenging 12 months, their mettle will be tested by the young Super Eagles squad. Interestingly this is not the first friendly match of the South American team, as they had their first match against the Russian team in Moscow the weekend prior.
In their second friendly, the South Americans will be facing the Nigerian team, who are through in their world cup qualifying group, to take their place at the world tournament.
Aside from Lionel Messi who would not be playing at the game, as he is resting for world cup; Gonzalo Higuain and Mauro Icardi were not invited for the World Cup
