The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) might have held a successful National Convention on Saturday 12th August 2017 at the Eagle Square Abuja, however three Governors were noticeably absent. The absentee governors were Senator Ben Ayade of Cross River; Seriake Dickson of Bayelsa, and Engr. Dave Umahi of Ebonyi State.
Although, no official reasons were given for their absence, there is speculations that it may be connected to the Supreme Court Judgement, which had ousted Senator Ali Modu Sheriff, and recognized Sen. Ahmed Makarfi as the more credible National Chairman of the crisis-laden party.
It is an open secret that the Governor of Cross River, Ben Ayade, was an unrepentant supporter and loyalist of the Sheriff faction, seeing the winds have changed to Markafi’s side, attempted to woo and get his support him, after the fact, albeit unsuccessfully. The governor is allegedly in a dalliance with the leadership of APC and insinuations are rife, that he is flirting with the idea of defecting to APC. Like Ayade, Governor Umahi is also rumoured to be nursing intentions of defecting to APC as well.
Although reasons for Governor Dickson’s absence is unclear as at the time of writing this report.
