1961 – After a 4½ year trial Nelson Mandela is acquitted of treason in Pretoria


1886 – Coca-Cola was created by Dr. John Pemberton, who produced it in his backyard in Atlanta.
Dr. John Stith Pemberton, a local pharmacist, produced the syrup for Coca-Cola, and carried a jug of the new product down the street to Jacobs’ Pharmacy, where it was sampled, pronounced “excellent” and placed on sale for five cents a glass as a soda fountain drink.

1852 – Ohio made it illegal for children under 18 and women to work more than 10 hours a day.

1987 – Lawrence Anini a notorious armed robber in the 80s executed. He was sentenced to death with his lieutenants and police officers who aided them


2006 – Nigeria experiences a solar eclipse.
