The United Kingdom Government on Wednesday deported 41 Nigerians for various immigration offences.

The unmarked Airbus A330 aircraft, which brought in the 33 male and eight female deportees, arrived at the cargo area of the Muritala Muhammed International Airport, Lagos, at about 7.55am yesterday and were received by the National Emergency Management Agency on behalf of the Federal Government.

The Deputy Director of Search and Rescue for NEMA, Dr Onimode Bandele  who represented the Director General of the National Emergency Management Agency, Alhaji Muhammad Sani-Sidis called on Nigerians to join hands with the government to develop the country after  the deportees arrived Nigeria. He also said the agency would help to reintegrate the deportees into the society and provide logistics support for them including stipend for transportation and feeding.

“It is our responsibility, on behalf of the Federal Government, to ensure that they are well received. We need to talk to them and let them realise that the country they left some years ago, is not the same; we have moved ahead and everyone has equal opportunity in the present day government to be the best he or she can be’’, he said.

He added that there were no prisoners on the plane as against contrary reports.
