An average Lagosian is just coming to terms with how alive government is to its constitutional responsibilities, cardinal amongst which is security of lives and properties, the fact that everyone in position of authority, particularly the executive no matter the strata, swore an oath to protect this, underscores the importance of security.

Not quite done with the Badoo kidnap gang’s scourge ravaging the entire landscape of Ikorodu and beyond with security apparatus deployed massively to curtail the sad phenomenon, they still had to keep tabs on all other black spots in the state with reports and records of occurrences, this alone is tasking enough and demands the fierce approach.

To the security apparatus and the entire Lagosians, Tuesday 8th day of the eighth month of August, 2017, is a day that won’t be forgotten in a hurry, even as nearly the entire governing body of Lagos State converges in Osun State to solidarize with one of their own and accord Governor Rauf Aregbesola who was bereaved of his darling mother the needed support and to attend the eighth day Fidau prayer for Alhaja Saratu Asabi Aregbesola (Iya Olobi).

Another gory tale crept up in the early hours of the day along the Lagos/Abeokuta expressway, Obadeyi/Ajala in Ojokoro LCDA, which eventually claimed the lives of two suspected kidnappers who were battered and set ablaze by an irate mob. The security operatives were taken aback then till the moment they figured out the precise location of the hideout or much reported hell hole or den of kidnappers, the case got worse by the angry mob who combed the place along with them to unravel the said den.

All through that day till late Tuesday night and early hours of Wednesday, no items or bodies were recovered that may be considered as a link to the reported kidnap den, the Police Force, Lagos State Neighbourhood Watch as well as the soldiers on ground, who made efforts to access the tunnel where a voice crying for help was allegedly heard, had no clue.

The attendant headaches this development caused the security officers, sniffer dogs and other important tools were also deployed to unravel the perceived secrets, but to no avail.

In the course of ensuring the security of people and commuters along the axis, there was a heavy presence of law enforcement in the environment as at Wednesday but it nosedived into a very high degree of quagmire, when suddenly supposed individuals that ought to collaborate with law enforcement chose to break the law, to an extent that they were seen dragging with armed personnel in a bid to overpower them, reminiscent of what led to the eventual setting ablaze of two individuals earlier.

The Police, however, stood their ground even as the host Divisional Police Officer of Ijaiye Ojokoro, SUPOL Tolani Ogunjobi, along with a handful of other security officials were hit by the stones and harmful objects thrown by the irate mob, resulting in the DPO’s nose and forehead being badly bruised and other officers sustaining injury.

Consequent upon the development, some people fell victim and were arrested. Passersby had to raise their hands up to pass the scene unhurt, as shops close to the express were mostly under lock and key.

The veracity of the claims are not yet authenticated, however, the site of the incident still has onlookers hanging all around to get first-hand information on what likely fresh developments may crop up till day three after the ugly scenario.

A shallow ground upon which the victims of the 2006 pipeline fire incident were given a mass burial was adjacent the scene of the gory tales.

To ensure security in the area, many people suggest that shanties and abandoned structures be pulled down so that low lives and criminals will no longer be able to perpetrate their heinous crimes.
